New Discraft Midrange Disc: The Hornet

What Discraft says about the Hornet.  The Hornet is a fast, overstable midrange with a longer glide than you would expect. The Hornet has a medium hard fade finish.  The Hornet will hold a line in a moderate to strong head wind and still fade at the finish.

Most users said the disc performance was between a Wasp and a Stalker, also compared as a more overstable Impact.  If you snap it, it will fly strait and flat and then fade fairly hard at the end.  Many users also had good performance on big hyzer throws when you take a high line, the disc was said to work well on thumber and tomahawk throws as well.

Available at the proshop soon. (This post is for information purposes and does not constitute a recommendation by Morley Field)

Storm Update

Sad news again at Morley. The "new" shoe tree on hole 11 has fallen and will he completely removed. Looks like dead tree+wet shoes+wind=sadness. AVOID entering the course from North Park on Pershing dr. southbound. At least one lane will be closed due to sink hole in the road.

A major tree on hole 9 is down and will effect play on hole 9 and 10.

All those with "cabin fever" charging out to play during the respite will want to "keep their head on a swivel".

Be safe!

Last Minute Disc Golf Gift Ideas

The event was not without controversy. At the end of round-robbin play there was a 3 way tie for first. The tie breaking scenario is spelled out in the WFDF Official Rules of Flying Disc Sports. "206.04 Tie Breaking Procedures: In round-robbin play, ties in which two teams have identical win/loss records, are broken by virtue of the head-to-head match in that round. If three or more teams are tied, the following procedure is used to advance one team:
A. If one of the teams has the best record against the other teams with whom they are tied in that round, advance that team.
B.If the tie remains, rank the net point totals of each team from those games played against the other tied teams, and advance the team with the best net point total.
If another team must also be advanced, the following procedure is used:
A. If advancement must be decided between two teams which remain from a previous three team tie, the head-to-head match in that round shall be used."
San Diego got in on net point differential and Sylmar got in having beaten Huntington Beach in their preliminary round-robbin match. Huntington Beach was understandably disappointed on missing out on the finals having beaten San Diego 6 (37) vs. Huntington Beach 6 (38) in the preliminary round-robbin round.

The King of The “Pink Ace”?

We all know a few disc golfers who “pad” their ace stats by camping on hole #1 short at Morley. Bless their hearts. Our investigative team’s extensive research uncovered the term for this. It is called a “Pink Ace” or a “Cubby Ace”. The trusted internet defines this as follows a) an ace where you sit at a short hole and empty your bag trying for an ace, preferably with a camera running or  b) an ace on a hole you could nail with a beach Frisbee. Both seem fitting.

Who is this man and what has Carl "Cubby" Cubbedge done to deserve this term?

We’ll provide these links and let you decide if he deserves the title “King of the Pink Ace”. www.youtube.com/user/DiscGolfer http://www.cubbysdiscgolfworld.blogspot.com http://discgolfer.ning.com/profile/Cubby

(in our opinion he looks like a nice guy who needs a big hug!)

Bag Tags #1 and #2 Spotted At Morley

Contrary to popular speculation, San Diego Aces bag tags #1 and #2 are not sealed away in an airtight vault. In "random" happenstance, Micah Dorius (who earned tag #1 with his win at the 2010 Course Championship) ran into the ever-youthful Dave Butcher early Monday morning at Morley Field. The crowd (of 5) gasped as the prestigious black tags seemingly levitated into the air above the challengers bags. In a fun early morning round, Micah defended #1 and Dave kept #2. All is well with the world.

Two Morley Field Favorites

Take time in the next few days to send a shout to Dave Roper and Chris Wymer. Dave is moving to Utah at the end of this month as well as Wymer's departure to Visalia to soon follow. Disc golf is a community of great people and these are two of Morley's recent favorites. Dave moved up the ranks quickly the past few years to begin posting big wins in many Socal Tournaments. Chris recently won his first Morley Monthly in the Open Division. You'll be missed guys!
